Saving the world, one wedding at a time

We're trying to make modifications here and there that will make our wedding as eco-friendly as possible. I know it's not a lot, but considering 2.4 million couples get married in the U.S. every year, I'm hoping that if other couples also work on reducing the carbon footprint of their own weddings, it will start to make a difference.

The ideas we have come across so far, and are (or hoping to) implement are--

~Vintage wedding jewelry with conflict-free diamonds (my engagement ring came from Doyle and Doyle- a wonderful vintage and estate jewelry store in the Lower East Side, http://www.doyledoyle.com/ - we are hoping to find wedding bands there as well)

~Using locally grown and seasonal organic flowers for floral arrangements and bouquets from a farm in Goodlettsville (http://www.madisoncreekfarms.com/- Martha Stewart used them for the recent wedding of her assistant in Nashville!)

~Work with the caterer on incorporating organic and/or locally grown ingredients into our southern-style cuisine

~Print the save the dates on recycled paper (done! you'll get them soon!)

~Have guests RSVP online to save paper

~Serving locally brewed beer at the reception (http://www.yazoobrew.com/)

~Using mason jars collected from friends and thrift stores for decoration, and using soy candles (they contain no chemicals and burn clean!)

That's all I have for now. I'm going skiing for the first time ever this weekend, so I'll be back to update next week (as long as both my arms aren't broken!) Happy Valentine's Day!

P.S. How cute is this tulle garland? Reminds me of my ballerina days...
